Robby's visit and a couple of ballgames
Robby came out to visit in September and we saw a few sights, three ballparks and a half dozen games. I think the Yankees Red Sox was the highlight, but new Camden yards was pretty impressive too. This summer we're thinking about a road trip to Fenway when he comes out.

On the ferry boat to liberty island. We got up early and barely caught
the first boat. We had been to the statue in 1973 but didn't make it
to the top because the lines were so long. Chris Dotson, Dad and I tried
again last March and missed again, so we were determined to make it
up.

Everyone getting in line behind us. That Colorado hemoglobin served us well on
the race to the statue entrance.

The world trade towers and Manhattan skyline through the crown skylights.

We ran to the top, and actually had it to ourselves for a few minutes. Someday
we'll get to the top of the arch in St. Louis (it was closed for repairs
when we tried in '73), then we will have been to the top of all of the
"important" US highpoints except Longs peak. We can bag that anytime.

The views of Manhattan are great from the ferry.

They have a full size replica of her foot in the museum, and you could tell
from the polish on the top that lots of people had use it as a bench.

After we got off the liberty ferry, we walked across the Brooklyn bridge the
wrong way (you're supposed to take the subway to the Brooklyn side,
and walk back TOWARDS Manhattan).
|
On the other side, We caught the subway to Shea Stadium for the first baseball
game of the day.
|
|
|
Shea is notorious for being about two miles out and directly in the flight
path of La Guardia airport. We got lucky. After this plane landed, the
wind shifted and we didn't see another all afternoon.

Then back on the subway and back to the Bronx for a night game at Yankee
